League Rules

League Rules and Regulations

  1. The Team
Each team will consist of 10 - 14 players, with 6 players on the field at any given time. A minimum of 5 players are required to commence a 5-on-5 contest, and players can be recruited from a lower division if necessary to meet minimum player numbers.
  2. Equipment
Blocking devices or helmets are prohibited, while volleyball elbow and kneepads are permitted. Players with casts must pad them to the referee's satisfaction. Metal cleats or spiked shoes are not allowed; however, running shoes or cleats with rubber or plastic tips are permitted. CYFFL will provide flags and uniforms for use during the season. Equipment must be returned at your last game.
  3. The Field
Standard fields are 100 yards long and 50 yards wide with 20-yard increments, including two 10-yard end zones. Modifications to field sizes may occur based on field location and division.
  4. Officiating
Each game will be officiated by two assigned officials. The head referee will oversee scorekeeping and league standings and will issue an incident report for roughing penalties, resulting in player ejection after two 10-yard roughing penalties in one game.
  5. Schedule
Games will start at scheduled times, irrespective of weather conditions. If the last regular season game in August is canceled due to weather, it will be considered a tie game and won't be rescheduled. Every effort will be made to reschedule other canceled games, and in some cases, teams might play 2 games on the same Saturday.
  6. Rosters and Player Rotations
All teams are expected to fill out and have a parent administer the Roster and Player Rotation form.
  7. Playoffs
Every team will participate in the playoffs. In the event of a tie, division standings will be determined by the record against each other, number of wins, and total point differential. A coin flip may resolve further ties.
  8. Disciplinary Action
Behavior that is in violation of the code of conduct will be subject to disciplinary action and assessed on a case by case basis. Referees must report incidents formally. Harsher penalties are at the executive's discretion.
  9. Regular Season Games
Regular season games should never result in forfeits. Coaches have options: play 5 on 5, adjust field size and play 4 on 4, pull players from a younger or the same division, or, with mutual consent, pull players from a higher division.
  10. Rules of the Game
The rules of the game will be adhered to and will be enforced by the officiating referees.
  11. Field Size and Direction at Glenmore and Acadia Fields
Different divisions and conditions dictate field placement, size, and directions for play, with rules for turnovers, interceptions, and starting positions.
  12. Overtime Rules
Overtime will involve player rotations every second play, with the lower-ranked team choosing ball possession first or second. Teams will start on the 40-yard line and have up to 3 plays to score or gain maximum yards, alternating ball possession until a winner is declared.
